Dedicating additional time after working hours to help students prepare for their exams, Algerian teacher Wes Sukeina is an example of a teacher loyal to her academic mission that contributes to raising enlightened future generations.
Wes Sukeina found her purpose in 1966 when she decided to devote her life to raising bright and enlightened students in her hometown Boutelis, Algeria.
The natural sciences teacher, and mother of four, dedicates time to innovate new ways of teaching to support students’ learning. Her sincere efforts helped nurture and empower young people with the knowledge they need to become responsible and self-reliant.
It started when Sukeina prepared and distributed comprehensive science briefs to help high school students prepare for their examinations.
She also put together and solved sets of exercises with students, ensuring they perform well in exams.
It is not unusual for Sukeina to stay back after school to personally tutor students who have missed classes, helping them keep up with their peers.
Away from school, Sukeina opened her home to teach a student diagnosed with leukemia. Her lessons did not only empower him to fight his illness, but also gave him hope and reason to live for. Her efforts taught him early on that persistence is the key to defying challenges.
Sukeina’s support is not only limited to students, but extends to new teachers who need support adjusting to their new environment.
It is not an exaggeration to say that a great teacher can change a student’s life. Sukeina is one who proves that a teacher’s role goes beyond academic enrichment to raising an empowered generation and building a brighter future.
Make hope… Make a difference
