Khaled Bashir comes from Deir al-Balah in Palestine. He collaborated with several universities in the United States and with McGill University in Canada to develop an innovative water distillation system using basic material available locally (such as hay and plastic). His goal was to help people and families get access to clean water easily and affordably at home, regardless of the source of water itself and the degree of contamination.
He wanted to help as many people as possible, so he started with his family and neighbours in Deir al-Balah, teaching them how to build the water distillation system in their homes. Eventually, his innovative solution spread, and many people were able to obtain clean water in an environment where it is expensive and increasingly difficult.
Bashir not only came up with, and popularized, the idea, but he also gave his time and energy, free of charge, to help anyone interested in building the distillation system, especially the underprivileged.
In his effort to spread this solution even further, Bashir partnered with McGill University and introduced the solution to people in Haiti, who also obtained clean water with difficulty.
Regardless of his circumstances, Bashir kept looking for a solution that can help people and change their destiny. In his endeavor, he also found a way to share a ray of light of hope.
Make hope… Make a difference
