Ali Al Arini launched the "active learning" classrooms to improve the academic performance and educational experience of his students in Oman.
Omani Ali Al Arini believes teaching is more than just a profession. His role as an educator lies in empowering students with knowledge to help them lead a successful life.
Classrooms, for him, are spaces where innovative ways should be developed to ensure effective learning beyond just providing students with large chunks of information to developing.
Al Arini’s mission started in Sur, Oman, in 2016 when he saw a decline in student performance in math and science. He established an “active learning” class at school to improve academic performance and create interactive educational experience for students.
The trial phase started in October 2016 when Al Arini developed strategies to train teachers on “active learning” approach.
Witnessing the notable impact the new teaching method had on improving student performance, the school dedicated two “active learning” classrooms with more teachers adopting the learning approach that equally received positive response from students.
The costly educational programme, funded by teachers themselves, faces financial struggles that hinders its continuity. Proper teacher training was also temporarily suspended due to the lack of financial resources.
Al Arini hopes to introduce the concept of “active learning” across all schools in Oman. He aims to make his school the dedicated center for “active learning” training to educators and teachers. He took the first step of hope that he aims to complete against all challenges.
Make hope… Make a difference
