It was a coincidence when the ‘Jedareyat’ team was dubbed a volunteer group dedicated to spreading beauty. Suleiman Al Roudhan was on his way to a government meeting in Kuwait when he spotted inappropriate graffiti on the Social Affairs and Labor Ministry building. He photographed the distorted wall, and posted the photos on social media in order to share his view of the incident. Minister of State for Economic Affairs Her Excellency Hind Al Subaih was already working to resolve the issue, and suggested that Al Roudhan establish a volunteer team of talented young artists who can draw on the walls, decorating the building, and covering the offensive graffiti.
With that, the ‘Jedareyat’ team was launched in January 2016. The team seeks to decorate neglected spaces in order to minimize visual pollution in Kuwait’s urban environment, while adding aesthetic value to public spaces, promoting creativity and art, and encouraging young people to display their artistic talents through this productive outlet.
‘Jedareyat’ have completed several projects with groups of talented volunteer artists who are motivated by the value and strength in turning something offensive into an aesthetic piece of art.
The project seeks to instill the value of beauty in modern cities, to promote the culture of volunteerism, and to improve the urban environment in an innovative way that makes the community a better and more beautiful place.
Until today, ‘Jedareyat’ has successfully completed several artistic projects, transforming many building walls in Kuwait into beautiful murals, and even creating new cultural landmarks. Many young people are interested in contributing to the project, whether they are professional artists, hobbyists, or people who want to contribute to the initial colouring of the walls.
‘Jedareyat’ hopes to make its mark on every wall, driven by a great passion to spread beauty and the belief that beauty is another face for happiness and hope.
Make hope… Make a difference
